Running

I LOVE running!!!!  However, I have been nursing an achy knee for the past few weeks. :-{  But I think it's finally starting to get better.  I actually ran hills at my mom's house yesterday for 50 minutes, and it never did hurt.  Yea!!!  I am sore today though. Mostly in my calves and booty...LOVE running those hills.  I also got to pepper-spray a yappy dog.  It ran out of someones front yard, into the street, right up to my ankle, and I moved my ankle out of the way right as it was trying to nip me...as I lowered my arm and sprayed. Nailed it right in the face!  If I can spray my own foot and hit the dadgum dog, that's a problem and it deserved to be sprayed. If it's owners didn't want it sprayed or ran over, they should keep it in a fence....anyway, I looked back as I was rounding the end of the block and it was going crazy rubbing it's face on the grass.  LOL!  I cracked up and kept on running, saying "teach you to try to bite another runner!" Maybe it will remember me next time...but I will NOT run without my pepper spray in hand...

And the Winner is....

My bestest buddy Jenni J. won the Holiday Challenge!!!!  She took home the $100 and also lost 6lbs!  You go girl!  I'm so proud of you!!!!!

Challenge Update

My best buddy Jenni is currently in 1st place, while my other good buddy Kate is in 2nd....I'm currently at 4th.  Don't count me out yet though girls.  I may have got off to a slow start, but I'm on a roll now, and don't plan to give up!  :-)
Skinny jeans here I come!  Woo-Hoo!!!!

Challenge

I'm currently in challenge with some friends of mine, to see who can lose the highest percentage of weight in 5 weeks.  I'm not real confident, since I don't have a lot to lose and am already so close to my goal weight (fyi: I gained back some weight since summer, and started the competition at 124...so I'm hoping to get back to at least 116-120 range).  It seems that the closer I get to my goal weight, the harder it is to lose and maintain.  Therefore, I've been running a lot.  Which I LOVE!!!  I'm training again, and am planning to run the half-marathon in February again.

Also, I was thinking about our boys, and how they are learning the importance of healthy nutrition and exercise.  If I ever eat anything other than my "normal" foods (ex: oatmeal, chicken breasts, sweet potatoes, salad, fish, etc...) they say "Oooommmmm, Mom is having a Cheat day!" LOL!!!!  Talk about a couple of little tattle-tales. But I can now make sweet potato fries, and the boys woof them down!  They wouldn't even try them about a year ago, but they are learning to love our healthier options.  Don't get me wrong, they are far from perfect eaters, they LOVE their sugary treats, but they also know the difference in what's healthy and whats a "treat".  I'm proud of them.  I wish I had learned all of this stuff at their age.  My oldest has even learned how to read nutrition labels!  I didn't even learn that until I was 21! (yes...I was clueless!)  LOL!

Anyway, I don't know why I just went into all of that....but there you have it. My thoughts for the day.
Oh I ran 5 days in a row last week, and then sunday night after I finished running, I did lunges from one side of the football field to the other, twice.  I can barely stand up today! LOL!!! Feels SOOOO good though, knowing I worked those muscles hard...love that sore feeling, reminding me to keep up the hard work!  :-)

New Ride!

My poor little Maxima was getting very high in mileage (over 153K), and it was running a lot rougher than normal, and very rough when it would switch through the gears.  I really didn't want to get rid of it, because it was loaded with every bell and whistle you could think of.  But Stephen didn't want to worry about me breaking down in it either.  We had already replaced a $600 sensor and the battery this year...who knows what would have been next on the list.  We figured we better go ahead and get rid of it while we could still get something for it as a trade in.  So we had been searching for a few months, trying to decide what to get.  I was going back and forth with whether I wanted a new Cross-over like the Nissan Rouge or the Hyundai Tuscon, or if I'd rather go with another Nissan Maxima or maybe another Toyota Camry......hmmmm, or maybe a Hybrid.
Well, after doing some research, we decided to go with a Toyota Prius Hybrid.  It gets 45-50 miles per gallon!!!  Talk about fun to drive to.  It takes some getting used to, because it's totally different than a traditional car.  But we are really enjoying it (and LOVING the gas savings! especially with as much as I drive!)  The display says I'm currently getting 47-MPG (after driving it for work the past two days). YES!
Here's my new ride.  A 2007 Toyota Prius.  We all LOVE it!!!  It's not fully loaded like my Maxima was, but has some other great features.  It actually feels roomier in the front and back seats, than my Maxima did, and is a much more comfortable seat/ride.  So we are very happy with the change.

M.I.A.

Sorry I've been M.I.A. lately.  It's just been so busy with work, kids, college, online appraisal school, exams, housework, etc.  It's been a total whirlwind.  Basketball has now started also, so I have 4 hours every week of basketball practices to sit through.  {sigh....}
Can I just say "I'm EXHAUSTED".  So ready for a break....

I can say that I am still running.  Trying to get a minimum of 4-5 miles a day (or more,  at least 4-6 days a week...depending on what all is going on and when I can squeeze it in).
My mother in law also gave me a Zumba DVD to try.  It's rather difficult, since this white girl can't dance...but I do love the Zumba Flat Abs workout.  It's only 20 minutes long, and I can actually do the moves, so I enjoy it.  Let me just say, it makes me SORE! I feel parts of my abs I didn't even know I had...so it must be working.  Hopefully...  after having babies, my abs are my most difficult body part to get/keep firm.

Okay, I better get to work. I have two reports sitting here waiting to be typed up.
Later!

busy, busy, busy....

I'm still here...sorry I haven't been a regular blogger lately. It's just so busy around here. On top of my normal "mommy chores" I am also working full time, taking appraisal courses, and a college course. so if I'm not working, doing school, or chores, then I'm running or weight training, and after all of those things, the day is over....

Anyway, I weighed in on Sunday....it said.....116.2!!! Yea!!! I have now officially lost 12.8 lbs since March. Yes!!! It feels GREAT.
So now, I have to work hard to "keep it off", and especially to keep it off through the holidays/winter months. I sooooo do NOT want to gain the dreaded 7-10 pounds this winter.

Okay, gotta go get ready for work. Catch ya'll later!

hair and clothes...

sorry it's been so long since my last post. It's just been a whirlwind around here....
I never made it to my goal weight of 115 by my birthday. I'm currently stuck at 117, but I'm okay with that. I'm wearing a size I feel comfortable in, and my clothes fit really well, so I can't complain.
At my hair appointment today, my aunt gave me a bag of clothes she had bagged up and was going to give away. So once I got home I tried it all on and everything FIT! I was shocked. I've always DREAMED of being as tiny as my Aunt Linda!
She gave me 6 pairs of jeans (some with tags still on them!), and all but one pair fit perfectly! (The size 4 jeans from old navy were way to big, but still have the tags on them...wonder if I could take them in and exchange them without a receipt....hmmmm). She also gave me 3 pairs of running shorts, two pairs of lined straight leg workout pants, two shirts, and a victory secret capri sweat-suit type set. It all fit GREAT! I'm on cloud nine. It was like Christmas! LOL!
New hair, new clothes...what more could a girl ask for. LOL!

HOT!

It's so HOT outside! Yesterday marked 12 days straight of 100+ degree temps, and today will make 13. Geesh!
Because of the heat, I'm stuck running on the treadmill. I tried running in this heat last week, while the boys were at vacation bible school, but I only made it 3 3/4 miles before I felt like I was gonna puke. So I had to stop. I'll just stick with the treadmill for now. I did 8.5 miles on Tuesday, didn't have time to run yesterday (total chaos and had to get work all caught up and turned in), so I'm going to run this morning....
After I run , I have to pack, because..... I'm going on a weekend shopping trip with my Mom, her best friend, and her best friends married daughter!!!!! Woo-Hoo!!!!!! (our poor husbands! LOL!) It should be a lot of fun! In all the years I've been married, I've never once gone on a girls weekend trip with my mom. I can't wait!!! I'm sure we will get a lot of walking in, and the hotel also has a pool, so hopefully I can get some good exercise time in while I'm gone. Also taking my running shoes, just in case. :)
Yall make it a great day! Fuel that body with good nutrition, and get moving!

Goal...

I have almost reached my goal....
My goal weight has been 115 for a few years now, and back in March I started using an application on my phone to try and help me track my weight and reach my goal of 115 by our 14th wedding anniversary.
Well, yesterday was our 14th wedding anniversary. I woke up and jumped on the scale, and it read.....118.6 Almost there! So I have officially lost 10 pounds since March! Woo-Hoo!!!
Now my new goal date is my birthday next month. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can........

Body Image

Have you ever felt like you just don't look good enough, like you need to lose a certain amount of weight, or spot reduce, or have some cellulite you want to get rid of? I have the cure. Anytime you start feeling really down about your body image, just go to.....(no not Wally World...tho that is another good one LOL).....in this case, Hurricane Harbor! LOL! It's a Six Flags Water Park. We took the boys last week. It was their first trip ever to a water park. We had so much fun! The boys loved going down the slides, and Seth became super brave and was going on any ride he could go on with me. We all had a blast!
But I was SHOCKED by the body's I saw sporting "itsy bitsy teeny weeny" bikinis. I was sort of self conscious about going to a water park and being in a bathing suit all day..wondering if I should wear a cover up all day or maybe a t-shirt over my bathing suit....until we got there. LOL! I started looking around, and I then hit my husband and said "hey, you didn't realize how lucky you were until today huh!" LOL! He agreed immediately!!
I'm telling ya, I was just shocked at how people didn't really care what they looked like. We saw every age, and every size, shape, and color sporting their little bikinis. So before the day was over, I was feeling pretty good about this little ol' body, loose wrinkled skin, minor cellulite and all. :-)

Diet

Okay since you have all asked about the "Emergency Diet" I've been doing, I'll share. Stephen found the diet in a Muscle magazine. It was designed for a 220+ man originally, but they had a modified version for if you were 180 or less. Well, I'm thankfully WAY less, so I even modified that version, added up the calories, and made sure it was around 1200 calories a day.

Here it is:
Meal 1: 1/2 cup (40grams) Old Fashioned Oats, made with water and cinnamon for taste, with 5 egg whites scrambled OR 1 scoop whey isolate protein shake.

Meal 2: can of tuna (in water) with 2 rice cakes

Meal 3: 134 grams chicken breast, with 175 grams sweet potato

Meal 4: can of tuna or 134 grams chicken breast (no carbs with this meal)

Meal 5: 6oz fish (I use talapia), fresh salad, 2 tsp extra virgin olive oil

There you have it. I like it, because it's the same thing everyday and I don't have to think about what I'm going to eat, and I can cook up a bunch of chicken/sweet potatoes/fish/salad and prepackage everything so it's easy to grab during the week.

Vacation

We were gone camping for a full week! Yea!!! I ran over 6 miles the first full day at camp (Wednesday), and also biked another 6+. Thursday, it rained and we spent the whole day fishing. We caught over 27+ Crappie in two days! It was so much fun! We had a big fish fry that weekend, with Stephen's family.
On Friday we moved the camper up to a campground closer to Stephen's family and they came out and went camping with us. I ran another 6+ miles that day.
Saturday we spent the day water skiing, walking dogs, walking/running 1+ miles (one way) to the park and then back. It was a very fun day, spent with family.
Sunday it was very windy, so we took the tube out on the boat. Later that day Levi started running a fever. That evening I ran about 4+ miles.
Monday we packed up and came home. It's been a whirlwind with sick kids, and trying to catch up on work. They finally started feeling better though, and I met my dad half-way yesterday and the kids went to spend the rest of the week with Papa and Nana and go to VBS at their church. I've done nothing but work since they've been gone. But I just caught up, so now it's time to go hit the treadmill before Stephen gets home from work! Yea! Later yall!

running...

Still running. Trying to run 5-6 days a week, at least 2-3 easy miles. When I have more time or feel more energetic I go for more. Like Monday and Tuesday I did 4 miles each day. Yesterday I worked and didn't have time to run. So today, I did 10 mile, just because I wanted to. I'm just running for the fun of it, not following a training program really. Just listening to my body and how it feels and running however fast and far I feel like going. :-)
I'm also following a higher protein diet (my hair has been falling out bad...so hopefully this and the multivitamins will help). I never can seem to get enough protein in my diet otherwise. I'm more of a carb addict....salty is my weakness. This diet is pretty strict, but it's the same things every day (there are two different days/options), which makes it easier for me. I can cook up a bunch of days meals at once, and weigh them and store them. then they are easy to grab on the go, and I don't feel like I'm always cooking. It's going well.
Keep on keepin' on!

Loving Jillian Michaels!

I must say I love Jillian Michaels new show "Losing It". It's very emotional, watching her help these families who are basically hopeless, and within a week of working with them, literally turning their lives around! I can't watch it without getting a lump in my throat, but boy it sure is a positive and uplifting show. It should be an eye opener to everyone, that when you get your body moving, and feed it healthy nutritious foods, you automatically feel better...physically and mentally. Anyway.....
Sunday afternoon was spent cleaning, Stephen's basketball game, and then grocery shopping.
Monday, all day, walking around six flags.
Tuesday, working...
Wednesday, working...
Today, working, doing laundry, then ran 5 miles and did Jillian Michaels 30-day Shred 20 minute workout.

Running....

Friday night (the boys were with my parents), and Stephen had taken our camper out to the lake. So I stayed up working, until he got off of work and got to camp around 1:30am. I changed clothes and we went for a run together. We ran awhile, then we went down to the dock and did push-ups, then ran some more, and walked to cool down. It was so fun to run with him. After our run, we showered and climbed in bed around 3am.
Saturday I met my parents and picked up the boys, then we went back to the lake. Stephen had picked up the boat and brought it out to camp. We met him at the dock and went for a ride. We put the anchor down and swam awhile, then went back. it was extremely crowded on the lake that day.
Sunday I ran 6+ miles after breakfast, while Stephen and the boys worked on the boat. After I got back, we took the boat out and Levi skied! He loves to water ski. I also got to ski. Forgot how much I love it, and what a great workout it is! (especially after running 6+miles! LOL!)
Monday we were going to go home, but decided to stay instead. I had to go to work for a little bit, then we took the boys out to go tubing and skiing.
Tuesday Stephen had to work that morning, and I took the boys to the swimming beach. Stephen then picked us up and we ran to the house for me to fax in some work, while him and a friend shot their bows. We then went back to the lake and let the boys tube and ski again.
Wednesday we had to pack up and leave. I was exhausted. It was nice to get home, but sure was a lot of work to unload.
Thursday the boys had to go to work with me. It was a very busy, stressful day. So that evening I ran 7+ miles to relieve the stress. I felt much better afterwards.

still here....

I'm still here.
Still running regularly. I try to run at least every other day, if not every day. I loved running when we were camping because I could run outside, however far I wanted, without worry about dogs. I tried running out here where we live, a couple of weeks ago. The weather was so nice I hated to run inside, but I had to carry my pepper spray with me, due to all of the loose dogs around here. One good thing about trying to run past the houses with loose dogs, it will definitely help you increase your speed! I was running between a 7 1/2-8 minute mile! LOL! However, right before I got back home, I actually had to spray one of those dogs, because he came running out across the road to my right leg and was running with me, getting closer and closer to that leg, barking...so I reached my hand back without even looking and sprayed. He yelped and ran with his tail between his legs and was shaking his head like crazy. I felt bad, but really, if people don't want their dogs hurt, they should keep them in a fence or inside or something. If you let it run free, it's your own fault if it gets in the road and gets ran over, or sprayed with pepper spray.
I'm not signed up for any new races yet. It's just been a whirlwind around here lately. But I have decided to reward myself with a "Full Marathon", after I complete my 175 hours of additional Appraisal courses, 3 college courses, and pass my Appraisal Certification Test. Once I am officially a "Certified Appraiser", my reward will be training for and running my first FULL Marathon. :-) (Added motivation to get all of this additional "education" done with and out of the way).

Saturdays 10K

I really enjoyed this race. It was an hour later in the morning than my other races, and we didn't have to drive as far. The boys enjoyed it to, because there were bounce houses, face painting, side walk chalk, food, etc. They had a lot of fun with Dad while I was running.

It was the first year for this race, so it wasn't really huge, but was a lot of fun. There were 48 runners in the 10K (98 people ran in the 5K). I placed 17th, with a time of 54min 16sec.
In my age group, I placed 4th out of 8. LOL! I was please though, because half of the run was 3 HUGE hills up & down, in a row. When you finished them, you turned around and then ran back, so you ran the same huge hills again. It was tough, and the wind was blowing hard. So I was happy with the time. It made me glad that I had ran all of those hills at my parents house back at Easter. I KNEW I could do it! I just had to pace myself.

At the start line, ready to run!

Here, I'm coming back into the downtown area. I was very close to finishing at this point.

I'm waving to my hubby and boys. Mommy's almost done! At the point Seth started chasing me toward the finish line! LOL! He stayed up with me until I rounded the last corner and then ran as fast as I could to the finish line!

In the distance, that's me crossing the finish line!

Whew, I made it!

After I finished the race, I talked with one of my friends who ran in the 5K, she actually placed first in her age group! I was very proud of her!
The boys played some more while I drank two bottles of water, and ate a banana. Then I got a free cup of coffee and we went shopping. Stephen bought me a new pair of running shoes!!!!
It was a great day!

10K

Running a 10K in the morning. This is my third race, but the shortest distance. Hopefully I'll do well. I felt great after Sunday's Half-Marathon. I even ran on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (no more than 4+ miles at a time though). Feeling great!

Half Marathon Official Results:

I'm still in shock.....

I finished in 1:56:30.4 (translation: 1 hr, 56min, 30.4 seconds)
I placed 95th out of 662 runners.
In my age group, I placed 9th out of 64 runners.

Wow!!!! I'm blown away. I thought I had "maybe" finished somewhere in the middle....I had no idea I had done so well. Wow!!!! Talk about filling exhilarated after seeing those results!

Half Marathon and Pictures

Woke up at 4:00am to get ready for the day. Got ready, ate breakfast and downed plenty of water. We had a bit of a drive to get there so we had to leave super early. We arrived at the parking garage at 6:30am, but had to wait in a Loooooog line in order to actually get in and parked. Finally got parked and down to the packet pickup area.

Here I am getting my packet, and directions of where to pick up my chip-timer and where to go for the actual race.

I got my chip-timer tied onto my shoe, then we walked down to where the race site was. When we got close I told Stephen I needed to find the potty, before it got to close to start time. We then saw an extremely long line...of course, with any 'mostly women' event, you are going to have a long line for the port-a-potty, no matter how many they have available. So I got in line. That's me, there at the very end.

I was listening, for them to tell us to line up, and also looking for the pace-setter I wanted to follow. They had men running as pace-setters. They had to wear skirts! LOL! They also held up signs with their pace, I got behind the one with the 1:55 pace.

Let's play "where's Waldo". Can you find me? Peek-a-boo!
Here I am! :-)

And we're off! See ya'll in a few hours!

While I was running Stephen took the boys out for breakfast. They had a great time!
When they came back they walked around the water area, and Daddy took their picture.

The race itself was much harder than the last one. I thought maybe it was just because I was running faster. I stayed with the 1:55 group until about mile 5. The aid stations weren't doing a very good job and I kept having the stop and step around people to get water. Then one time there was a young man holding out a cup and I said "water?" and he nodded so I grabbed it. Nope, it was Gatorade. I felt sick after that one sip. For a few miles my stomach was hurting, and I thought I was going to puke. But I just kept going.
Around mile 8, the original pace setter for the 1:55 came up behind me and was running beside me. I pulled one of my ear buds out and told him I'd been trying to catch back up to him for miles. He said he had fell out to go to the bathroom and the other pacesetter took over for him. He had been running a 7 1/2 min mile trying to catch back up to them but hadn't been able to. He asked me what my personal goal time was. I told him I'd ran my last (and first) half-marathon in 1:59:19 and that was in the pouring rain, hail, and thunder/lightening. I was hoping to do that well again, but this run was feeling much harder than that one. He said it was probably the high humidity. The air just felt thick. So we talked some about races, and then he told me he was going to continue to run with me and make sure I got myself a new Personal Record. Which was fine by me! I needed someone to run with me, and help me keep going. I was getting very tired, and still felt sorta woozy and sick. I just kept those legs moving and trying to keep up with him. On the last mile, he said when we rounded the corner we were going to pick up the pace and finish strong. Um...I am picking up the pace! LOL! I said "K". I was really whooped at this point and wanted nothing more than to stop and just lay down and die. LOL! But we kept going. Once we rounded that last corner and were on the home stretch, there were people everywhere, cheering. I broke out into a cold sweat and really thought i was either going to throw up or pass out. But he kept yelling "come on Kandy" "come on!" "pick it up!" "You can do it"...so I put my other ear bud back in so I couldn't hear him! LOL!!!! It was everything I had in me just to keep moving, much less sprint it out. I did try to pick up even more though right before the finish line. He was clapping and cheering me right on through it. Then gave me a high-five at the end and told me good job, and succeeded at setting a New Personal Record for me. 1:56:30something. I shaved 3 minutes off of my time! Wow! I've never felt so exhilarated and exhausted all at the same time. LOL!
I then saw my handsome husband and sweet baby boys rushing toward me, right after a young man handed me my finishers metal. It was such blessing to them and their huge smiles! At this point a woman rushed over to me and said "let us get your picture with your finishers metal". I held up my finger to tell her I needed a minute. She laughed and said "okay, after you catch your breath". LOL! When I could finally breathe again, I had my picture taken, then found me a bottle of water and downed it. Stephen then got me another bottle of water while I was taking off my shoe. At about mile 3 I thought I had a rock in my shoe, but wasn't going to stop....when I removed my shoe I realized it was the toe seam in my sock, which had somehow worked it's was under the side of my big toe. I straightened it up and it felt 100% better. Then I took the chip timer off of my other shoe and Stephen turned it in for me.

Here I am coming up to the finish line, and that's the pace-setter (there in orange and pink), clapping and cheering me on. God always seems to put the right people in the right place at the right time. I wouldn't have made that time, if he hadn't been running with me for those last 5 miles.

Crossing the finish line!!!! Woo-Hoooo!!!! Ive never been so relieved! LOL!

I made it! I didn't die, or puke, or pass out! Yea!!!!! LOL!!

Getting my photo taken, with my finisher's metal.

Ahhhh, what a relief it is to be done....

On our way back to the car, we stopped and let the boys watch some ducks swimming in the water.

Daddy took our picture.

Then Levi took our picture. I'm so thankful to my husband, for sacrificing his sleep (he'd worked Saturday night, and only got a few hours of sleep before we had to leave for the race) all so he could take care of our boys and cheer me on. His support means the world to me. :-)
What a GREAT Day!!!!!
Next race, this Saturday. Thankfully it's only a 10K. Yea!!! LOL!!!!

2 more days!

Only two more days until my next half-marathon. I'm supposed to "rest" today and tomorrow. That is just soooo hard for me. I'm itching to get in there and run. But I do have a lot of work to catch up on by tonight, so I can get it completed and added to my payroll today. So that's the only thing keeping me from running (well, that and blogging! LOL!)
On Monday I ran 12+ miles, then Tuesday was a busy day and I mowed, so I didn't run. Wednesday I ran 6 miles, then yesterday I ran 9.25 miles. Maybe I can just run a few miles tonight, to clear my mind and help me sleep..... :-)

Half Marathon quickly approaching...

My next half-marathon is only 5 days away. We have a 30% chance of rain that day. So PLEASE PLEASE pray that it wont get rained out this year. This is the one I tried to run last year, that was cancelled due to flooding.
Sunday I was supposed to run 12 miles, but it was a full/busy day and I didn't get to run until really late. I only got 5 miles in before I ran out of time (had to get boys in bed).
After work yesterday, I decided to do Sunday's run, since I had more time. I ran 12.15 miles. It felt GREAT! My legs were basically numb by the time I stopped. After stretching out, I felt amazing! So I cooked dinner, and then enjoyed the evening with my precious family. Stephen and I were both exhausted, so after getting the boys in bed, I took some Advil (to prevent my muscles from getting stiff) and we were also in bed at 9:15! LOL!
I feel great today, no even sore! Yea!!!

Half-Marathon, and 10K

I'm scheduled to do my second half-marathon on May 2nd.
But then I found out that there is a race in our town, the weekend after, which benefits a great cause...so I couldn't resist.
Now I'll be doing a half-marathon on Sunday, May 2nd. Then turning around and doing a 10K on Saturday, May 8. Hmmmm, is that backwards?! LOL!
Oh well. It will be fun. At least I've been training and running regularly, so I know I'll be ready.

Training...

May 2nd will be here before i know it. But I KNOW I'll be ready. I've been continuing my half-marathon training program, and all is going well.
Yesterday I couldn't wait to run (I needed the stress relief). Finally, when I got to run, I did 8 miles! It felt GREAT!!!!
Today I'm supposed to do 3 miles, plus strength training. Thinking I'll do my miles, and then do some p90x. :-)

Easter Weekend

The boys were out of school on Good Friday, so I took them to visit my parents on Thursday night. We stayed there through Sunday. Unfortunately Stephen didn't get to go, because he had to work.

On Friday morning I decided to run. But Mom and Dad live in an EXTREMELY hilly neighborhood. Like almost straight up hills! Not just a gradual incline, more like running up a ladder! So everytime I have tried to run these hills with my husband, I've had to stop at the top of them to catch my breath. Wellllllll, this time I ran for over 40 minutes straight, NO STOPPING! I went the wrong way to apparently, because I ended up running up hills almost the entire time. It seemed like as soon as I got up one, I was going up another. But I was so thrilled that I FINALLY ran these hills withOUT stopping! Talk about a MAJOR accomplishment!

Then my long run was supposed to be Sunday, but I knew I wouldn't have time to run Sunday, so I ran on Saturday evening instead. I ran over an hour, of these same hills, withOUT stopping! No Breaks! WooHoooo!!!! I felt Great! Energized! Thrilled! Empowered! :-)

Sunday-no running.

Monday I ran 5+ miles on my treadmill.

today, we'll see. I've got lots of reports to type up and appraisals to measure this afternoon. but hopefully i can squeeze a quick run in.
Later!

Running when you don't "feel" like it.

I knew I needed to run today, but I was tired and un-motivated. I didn't feel like running, and it took a lot of "talking myself into it" to even get started....but boy, I'm glad I did!
Once I got started, I started feeling better. Sure enough, after a few miles, I was in the zone and didn't want to stop. 7.25 miles flew by, and I only stopped then because I had to go pick up the boys from school.
After getting them snacks, and checking their backpacks, I did todays Ab Ripper.
I'm still trying to talk myself into doing Legs and Back. Maybe after I get the boys in bed....

Yoga

Yesterday was Yoga X. I hadn't done this one before, because I didn't want to "waste" 90 minutes doing yoga. While I was working yesterday, Stephen did it. He said it was very long, but very advanced.
So after getting the boys in bed, I decided to go ahead and do it (*can't let Stephen out-do me!) Boy was I in for a surprise! I had forgotten how much I loved Yoga, and what a great workout it really is. By the time I finished this, every muscle in my entire body was shaking. Thankfully by the time I finished it, it was bed time, and I fell into bed and slept like a baby.

Workout together!

Today Hubby and I did "Shoulders & Arms" TOGETHER!!!! Woooohoooo! We haven't done weight training together in YEARS. It was soooo much more motivating, and I was able to push myself so much harder, while working out with him. It's amazing the difference it makes, working out with a partner. It goes by faster too.
Tonight was Ab Ripper. He was exhausted and hit the sac and said he'd do it in the morning. I have to work in the morning, so I'm going to go ahead and do it. :-)
Night Yall!

Camping=Great Exercise and Relaxation

We went camping for Spring Break last week. We had so much fun!

Everyday we hiked up/down trails, plus rode our bikes. But I also got a few good runs in. With all of those hills though, I was sore by the end of the week! It was GREAT!!!

On Sunday, my hubby and I went for a 6 mile run on a multi-use trail which was mostly gravel and a few areas of concrete...and for the FIRST TIME EVER, I didn't have to stop for a breather when running with him! Yea!!!! We were running up and down some pretty good hills to. I was very proud of myself.

Then on Monday we mostly hiked and rode bikes.

On Tuesday I ran 5.5 miles by myself, around the park.

Wednesday I ran 3.5 miles, around the park, and rode bikes/hiked

Thursday, the boys and I went on a 2 mile hike, and later rode bikes, before we had to leave. None of us wanted to go home. We had way to much fun.

Friday I had to work, and didn't get any official exercise.
Saturday, again, work, no exercise.

Sunday, I ran 5.25 miles on the treadmill since there was SNOW everywhere and church was cancelled. (Yes, Snow, in TX, in the middle of March....that is just SO WRONG!) I also did Ab Ripper with my handsome hubby. We both started P90X yesterday (me again, him for the first time). Of course I have to adjust my workouts around my training schedule for the half-marathon also, but I'm going to get it in there one way or another.

today's realization

Today, both boys were home again. I worked on reports all day, and once I finally caught up, both boys were laying in the living room asleep. I saw my window of opportunity, and ran into my room, lifted weights, stretched, and jumped on the treadmill. I ran 4 miles today. I was actually a little tight from yesterdays run, so it felt good to work that out. At about mile 2 I was feeling tired and really wanted to quit. But I told myself "today's training is to run 3 miles and do strength training. You can make it 3 miles". I just kept on running, and the next thing I knew I was feeling good and realized I was already over 3.5 miles, so I might as well just make it 4. LOL! It felt great.

Okay, as for my realization.....
At Christmas my mother in law gave me a gift card to walmart (Yea!!!!) so a few weeks back I went shopping and bought a bunch of girly things that I'd been wanting: sunless tanning lotion, teeth whitener, probiotics supplement, mascara, Jillian Michaels chocolate Whey protein powder (so yummy!!! Low in calories, and tastes like a chocolate milkshake..not gritty, even on the last sip. Love it!), a swim suit cover up, AND a digital kitchen scale! I've been wanting one of these for a long time, but never had the money to buy one. Well, let me tell you, it was soooooo worth the money!
I've been weighing things such as nuts to put into snack baggies (to know that I got the right amount), fruit, oatmeal, etc. But then a few nights ago, I downloaded a new food tracker/diary for my phone, and it converts/figures calories for you, and you can add your own favorite foods in there, etc. Tonight I made turkey whole wheat spaghetti. Now normally I'd just fill my plate about half full, and eat a salad with it. Tonight I decided to type in all the calories and nutrition information for these ingredients and put them in my phone/food diary. I then weighed my pasta, and weighed my meat/sauce. Was I in for a SURPRISE! A measly 2 oz of pasta is nothing! Yikes! But I measured it out, into one of my small Pampered Chef square plates. Then I filled the rest of the plate with salad. I was shocked by how small a serving of this "healthy" spaghetti was. But I stuck to it, and ate slow, and amazingly I was full when I finished eating.
This was a total revelation to me though. Normally I'd of ate about 3 or 4 X the amount of spaghetti I ate tonight. No wonder I've been running anywhere from 3-10 miles on any given day, and not losing any weight. I've been eating way to much! I've had to run that much just to maintain! Yikes! LOL! It was a total eye opener! I'm going to start weighing, measuring, and logging everything I eat. Maybe now I can actually get to my goal weight, and increase my running speed.

back to running

I haven't ran in a full week. Not since last Tuesday. Sure I've been active, but not actually running, which is my stress reliever.

Today, I've been extremely busy and stressed. Levi has been sick with Strep throat since Sunday, and then Seth woke up with 102 fever this morning. I took Seth to the doctor and yes he now has strep also. After this, we had to run errands (renew camper registration, take books/movies back to library, pay water bill, etc). I got home and have 3 reports to type up, and also got 2 new orders in. I made lunch, then started on work. I completed one report and research/scheduling on the other two. By this point, I knew I needed to squeeze in a run. I didn't feel like it. My body was tired. My mind wasn't in it. But I KNEW I would feel better if I just got in there and got started, and then my mind would be clear and I would be able to get more work done tonight (after getting the boys in bed).

I changed my clothes, then got distracted with laundry, and realized I was unconsciously putting off running. So I got the boys settled in with a movie and told them mommy was going to take an hour and run. I went in my room, shut the door, stretched, and got on the treadmill. I started out at a slow run for the first mile, then amazingly my body started warming up and feeling better. I sped up, and my body naturally settled into a rhythm and it became so much easier. I ended up running 5 miles. I didn't really want to stop, but I was worried about my sick baby and told myself "don't push it, you can run again tomorrow". :-)

Spring break is coming up next week. I can't wait! Plan on getting some good outdoor running in.

still here....

I'm a horrible blogger, I know. I haven't updated in over a week. Of course, I haven't ran since LAST tuesday either. Ick. I can feel it too. I am sooo in need of a good run.
Last week was just super busy. I met my cousin for lunch on Wednesday and picked up some clothes that her son had outgrown, that would fit my boys. It was wonderful to visit with her for a bit.
Then Thursday I spent working all day.
Friday I spent cleaning from 8am until 6pm! I'm talking deep cleaning...ceiling fans, light fixtures, switches, floors, ceiling/corners, etc... Our house was in major need of a deep clean, and then there was the motivation of having Seth's birthday party on Saturday and knowing we would have family here. After I was done cleaning, I had to take Seth to tball practice, and then my dear sweet friend Venece came over that night and colored and trimmed my hair!!!! Yea!!!! Thank you Neece!!!!!!

Saturday was Seth's birthday party. We had a wonderful day, and I was exhausted when it was over. Then Sunday Levi was sick and I spent the day working on reports and then grocery shopping. Monday and today I've been working non-stop. I'm hoping to get in a run in either tonight or tomorrow....

So yes, I'm still here. It's just been a whirlwind lately.

10 Reasons to Run in the Rain

The Half-Marathon organizers sent us all emails congratulating us on great run on Sunday. They added this at the bottom of the e-mail. Very fitting! LOL!

Top 10 Reasons to Run in the Rain!

10) Two words, clean shoes.
9) Jumping in puddles is FUN! (makes the kids passing you in cars jealous!)
8) If you don't run in the rain, how will you get hailed on?
7) Chuck Norris will think you are crazy or tough.
6) You can actually test your ability to avoid hypothermia!
5) Because the shower feels REALLY good afterward.
4) Running in the sunshine is easy.
3) You find out that you won't melt...
2) Sunglasses and sunscreen are not necessary.

And the number one reason....

1) Real athletes don't get rained out, they get rained ON!

First Half Marathon Experience...

The morning of the marathon, I woke up early. Antsy with anticipation for the upcoming race, and praying that the weather would hold out so that it wouldn't be cancelled. I drank one cup of coffee, then ate breakfast, and drank a good bit of water to hydrate myself (however I stopped drinking anything at 5:30am, so that I wouldn't be needing to pee through the entire race.)

I got ready, while Stephen got the boys up and got them ready. When I went outside to feed Toby and let Coco go potty, it was about 60 degrees, with no wind, and felt great! I told Stephen, and he checked the weather and said it wasn't supposed to start raining until late in the morning and wouldn't get cold until that evening. I told him I was going to have to find something different to wear, because I had planned on wearing my running pants (to stay warm), but now I should definitely wear shorts, so that I would stay cooler while running. So I pulled out a pair of black running shorts, and my pink tactical shirt from my half-marathon last spring, that was cancelled due to flooding. I was determined to not have another race cancelled on me, because of rain. At this point, I would gladly run in the rain, just to finally get to run a half!

We were in the car, on our way, and about half way there, we noticed the temperature readout was going down...the weather was getting cooler. Then it started raining on us. Great.. By the time we got there, it was misty and colder, about 53 degrees. The cold rain/wet made it feel colder than that though. I had on a black wind-breaker, but after we got out of the car, I gave it to my youngest son, because he was freezing cold. I told him I'd quickly warm up, so he could wear it, and stay warm. We made a quick visit to the porta-potty, and then went back and sat in the car, until closer to race time. We finally got out, when I heard a man calling for racers to come line up. So off we went. They had us all line up, at the start line. It felt like we stood there, freezing, forever. They brought out some boot camp girls, to take us through a warm up and stretch. Then my friend from high school, Kara, showed up. We got to talk for a few moments before the start. She said she hadn't been training regularly and had only ran 4 times in the past month, and for me not to try to hang back for her. So we agreed that we would both run at our own pace, and would try to catch up later.

Finally, the gun sounded, and we were off! It started slow, the people in front of me were running very slowly, and I couldn't get around them for a little bit. Once I finally could, I was off. I just kept my eye on someone in front of me, and then the next thing I knew, I'd be passing them. I was afraid at first, that maybe I was running to fast, and should pace myself a little more so that I didn't putter out before the end. But I felt good, and it felt like an easy steady pace, so I just kept running. At about every two miles, there were aid stations, with people cheering and passing out water or Gatorade, and toward the end, these stations were at each mile. I would grab a cup of water, take a sip, and throw it down, and never stop running. It was so awesome to see all of these volunteers along the course, directing us at turns, and cheering us on, even though it was sprinkling and cold. By about mile 4 or 5, I was behind two men, one of which was older with gray hair, and had an iron man symbol tattoo on the back of his calf. I stared at that tattoo for miles...LOL!

At a little over 6 miles, we passed by the finish line area, and there was my husband and boys! They were cheering for me, and waving!!! It made my heart soar! I was so thrilled to see them. At about 6.5 miles, I slowed at the aid station to get a good sip of water, and then took off again (this was the only time I ever stopped running, and it was only for a second, so that I could get the water in my mouth, instead of all over my face and down the front of my shirt). Shortly after this, it started pouring! The guys that were running in front of me were now somehow right behind me. We had been keeping the same steady pace for miles. I saw one of them keep talking to certain people who were working this event, so I asked him about his profession and he confirmed my suspicions that he is in the same line of work as my husband. We then discovered that we knew some of the same people, and just kept running together and talking, which made the time/miles pass faster. I found out that he is married to, for 6 years, and has a 3 1/2 year old son, and another on the way, due August 22 (the day after my birthday!)

At about mile 8 it came a down pour! We were getting major rain, and lightening. Around mile 9, we were really getting poured on, AND it started hailing! We could see small pieces of hail bouncing off of the road. It was crazy! All I could think was "Memories! This is one race I will never forget!!!" My feet were soaked, there were some major puddles of water forming and we had to just run through them...there is nothing worse than cold, wet feet. But we kept going. There was not a dry spot on my body at this point. My clothes were soaked and stuck to me, which felt like carrying weights around. But at least I had wore light weight clothes to begin with. Around mile 10, we were talking about training and pace (Joe; the one in the profession as my husband, and the older guy with the ironman tattoo, were training for the Ironman competition and this was one of their training runs), so I told Joe that I generally run a 9 1/2-10 minute mile and that my goal was to finish in under 2 hours and 15 minutes. he looked at his watch and said "do you realize we've been running a steady pace of 8.5 minute mile for quite a few miles now". I was shocked! It didn't feel like we had been running that fast, and we'd been at this pace for a long time. Maybe it was the rain, and the cold, driving me to run faster, so that I could get done and get out of this stuff. I don't know. But I was feeling great, and wasn't about to stop. Finally around mile 12, I told them that if I hadn't had someone to run with, this was where I'd be really tempted to stop for a minute. I was soaking wet, cold, and my feet were freezing....however, because of the cold/wet, my legs just felt sorta numb, so they didn't hurt at all! LOL! They told me, there was no stopping now, we only had a mile to go and I was going to finish this thing in UNDER 2 hours! I was amazed~ They said they couldn't believe I'd never run a half-marathon before, and was keeping such a great pace; which encouraged me to keep going! We kept running through the downpour. (I honestly believe God puts the right people in the right place, at the right time. These two guys offered just the encouragement I needed, to finish this race strong. I was in awe through most of the race, watching people running and thinking, I'm actually running this thing, with real athletes! This is amazing!)

All along the course, in the cold and the downpour, volunteers were still out there, cheering us on. Through the community we were running in, people were outside their houses with signs, cheering for us as we would run by. It was so amazing! I'd run everyday, if I had cheerleaders out there like that! LOL! It was such an encouragement.

Toward the end, we all stepped it up a notch. Once I saw that Race Clock, and it said 1:59:22, I ran my hardest/fastest, with all that I had left in me. I crossed the finish line at exactly 1:59:30 (or by the chip on my shoe...which activates when you pass the start line, to when you cross the finish line, I did it in 1:59:19.) WOO-HOO!!!!! I was thrilled! I was exhilarated!!! When I crossed that finish line, they slapped a metal in my hand and were yelling, "way to go Kandy! Congratulations Kandy!" It was the most amazing feeling, to know I had just accomplished that, and through that crazy weather! LOL!

I then met Joe's wife, and introduced my husband. We talked for a moment, then Stephen and I went to get some water for me. They had tents set up, with food, water, and a massage tent, but there was a long line and I didn't want to wait, or make my kids wait around any longer while I got a massage. Instead, I grabbed a water, and a 1/2 banana. But when I opened the banana it was black inside (from being on ice), so I threw it in the trash and grabbed a power bar instead. I took a few bites of it after got in the car. Stephen cranked the heater up, but I was freezing and shaking all over. We hadn't even thought to bring a towel. So I was soaking wet the whole way home. But my spirit was soaring! I had just accomplished a personal goal, and in a lot less time than I had ever dreamed or hoped for. I was freezing, yet exhilarated, smiling from ear to ear. Stephen was very proud of me...and the boys were excited to see my metal, but since I didn't come in first, I didn't win, and they couldn't care less. LOL!!!

So we got home, I got out of the car and mopped up all the water left in the seat. I came inside, peeled off all the soaking wet clothes and jumped into a nice HOT shower. Aaahhhhh..it was bliss! After my shower, I got dressed and we went out to lunch. Then we had to go grocery shopping. Once we finally got back home, I still felt really good, but was tired. I couldn't rest though, I had an appraisal report to type up. While I did that, Stephen napped on the couch, and then after he woke up, he started researching for more races for me!!! :-) He's the BEST!!!!

The next day, I wasn't even really sore. I went to work, and the only time I felt anything was when I had been in the car for awhile and got out, and had to walk down a hill. My shins and quads were getting a little stiff. I was afraid that on Tuesday I might really feel the pain. But once I got up out of bed, my quads and shins were a little tight feeling, but not to bad. After sitting for awhile, working, and then getting up to go get something, I'd feel a little stiff, so I went ahead and took some Advil, just to be safe.

Today I'm feeling great. I even caught up on work today, so I ran 6 miles! Woo-Hoo! Gotta keep my training up, for the next one. ;-)

First Half Marathon Photos

Late in the afternoon, the day before the race, I needed to run and do an appraisal. Our boys were fighting non stop all day, so I took Levi with me and left Seth at home with his Daddy. To give them some time apart, and hopefully offer a little relief to Stephen who was at home sick. While we were out working, Levi had fun snapping pictures with my camera.

Here he caught me, checking emails, while stopped at a red light.

He snapped some pictures of himself also! LOL!

RACE DAY!!!!!
The morning of the race. So far so good. The weather was 60 and no wind when we left home, so I wore shorts, and my tactical shirt from my last half marathon (that was rained out and cancelled). I also had a wind jacket on, but gave it to my freezing son shortly after getting out of the car, because by the time we got to the race, it was sprinkling and getting colder. So, I was freezing and couldn't wait to start running, to get warm.

Here we all are, listening to instructions....

Still waiting for the start....and still cold....

They then brought out some boot camp people to walk us through some warm ups and stretches. (which was kind of crazy...they tried to make us do jumping jacks and butt kicks forever...which I did them for a little bit, but they just kept going and going, so I stopped (as did most of the other people)..they were trying to wear us out, before running 13.1 miles! No Thanks! I needed to save some energy for the run. I did enjoy the stretching though.)

Finally right before the start, my friend Kara (we went to high school together), showed up. She's in the black hat/top and pink shorts. We only got to visit for a few minutes before it was time to go. I was so thrilled to see her though!

Finally, it was GO time! I'm down there, circled in yellow, taking off and putting in my ear buds. Woo-Hoo!!!!!
Stephen and Levi didn't get any pictures of me, while running the race, or crossing the finish line. It was pouring rain though, so the pictures probably wouldn't have turned out very well anyway.

Packet...

Yesterday I had to work, so while I was out, I stopped by and picked up my race packet. It was filled with goodies and coupons, my race bib and chip timer, and of course my new long sleeve race shirt. Yea!!!

On Wednesday I ran my 10 miles (that I was supposed to do on Sunday), which felt GREAT! Just wish I could figure out how to keep the back of my shorts from rubbing on my lower back and leaving me with a raw/skinless/stinging spot....
Then yesterday after catching up on some work, I ran 5 miles. I love the feeling of getting in a good run. It's so rejuvenating.

Oh, at the sport store yesterday, when picking up my packet, I saw some super cute pink tank tops and t-shirts. If I'd had an extra $20, I'd have been very tempted to buy one. One of them said "If found on the ground, please drag across the finish line", another said "It's not how fast I finished, its that I had the courage to start", and another one said "Running is cheaper than therapy!" LOL!!!! I loved these sayings. They made me laugh.

Half-Marathon

I am officially registered. I received the e-mail confirmation of my registration today. Whew! I was getting worried. I mailed it in on the 2nd. Took them long enough.
Anyway, y'all be praying. They are calling for a 40% chance of rain on Sunday. NOOOooooooo! My half-marathon last May was rained out and cancelled, I can't go through that disappointment this year. Please, please pray that it wont rain until AFTER the race at least.

I think I'm ready for it. I've been training and running regularly. I hope I'm prepared....

I ran 5 miles yesterday, was supposed to do 10 on Sunday, but after church we had gone to eat and then grocery shopping and I was walking around in stiletto heels all day and my feet were killing me! I was going to run the 10 yesterday, but my feet were still hurting and I had worked all day and just didn't have the energy. So I'm planning on running it today. The rest of the weeks runs are shorter and shorter in miles, and then 2 rest days before the big day- SUNDAY!!! (Feb 21st, at 7:30am) Woo-Hoo!!!!

Marathon is fast approaching....

The half marathon is only a week and 2 days away. I feel somewhat ready. Physically ready, just hope I'm mentally prepared also. I've never ran an official race before. I've only ever walked in a 5K fundraiser, a loooong time ago. I'm excited though.

Yesterday I ran 5 miles before having to stop to go pick up the boys at school. I played with them in the snow for awhile, and we had a really fun snowball fight. Later, after I got them in bed, I ran another 3.5 miles (just because I wanted to). :-) I never can sleep well when my hubby is working, and I knew the roads were going to be slick last night and I was worried about him. Rather than give in to the worry and fret over it, I just said a prayer for God to keep his hand of protection upon my sweetie and bring him home safe to me. Then, by wearing myself out with a good run before bed, I slept like a log.

Today has been a snow day, so the kids have been home. We played in the snow some, and I got some work done. Been working on housework, and am hoping to squeeze in an easy run later, just for the "feel good" endorphins...so that my children can live to see tomorrow (before I go nuts-o on them for driving me crazy with their bickering, and tattle-telling). LOL! Just kidding...at least I know when I need a "break" to squeeze in some exercise, so that I will feel better and be a better mother. :)

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

still running....

The half-marathon is less than two weeks away! Yea!!

Yesterday I ran 9 miles, but today I was extremely busy with work and didn't run. I did get in there and do an hour on my elliptical after getting the boys in bed though. So at least I got some exercise in.

Also been doing Abs (or ab ripper dvd..depending on my mood and the amount of time I have), and pushups/weight training. Life is good!

Sunday, Monday

I started feeling a little better on Sunday. The fever was finally over, but still had an extremely sore throat. But Sunday afternoon, I went ahead and ran 4 miles, knowing that when I run I feel better. It did help.

Then yesterday I went to work early, and then had my 1 1/2 hour massage (BLISS!!!). Last night I had to go meet Stephen (to take him basketball clothes and the boys), so while Stephen played basketball with his buddies, I ran on the mini track upstairs (overlooks the basketball court). It was fun, but I'm not sure how far I ran. I "think" it was about 6 miles, but I'm not 100% positive. Oh well, at least I ran. :-)

sick...

no workout thursday, yesterday, or today. I've been running a fever since Thursday afternoon, with an extremely sore throat, neck and ears, and a headache. This is miserable!

Half-Marathon Training

I mailed off my half-marathon registration/money today. Yea! I can't believe it's only a few weeks away. Where has the time gone?!
I've been running regularly, however, most of my training runs have had to be on the treadmill due to all the rain and very cold windy weather we have had. On the odd, warmer than average, sunny day, I've ran outside. I just hope I'm prepared for race day. Any tips are greatly appreciated!

My weight is finally budging! Yea! I had gotten all the way up to 131! (GASP! of course that was last week, during 'that time of the month'). But it totally freaked me out!! So I've been running regularly, plus I've been trying to really watch my diet, and avoid processed foods again. It seems to be working. I'm at 127, as of this morning. 4 pounds to go, to get back where I was before the holidays and cold weather. Which got me thinking, why is it that I go through this dreaded gain every winter? Every winter for the past few years, I've gained and lost the same 6-10 pounds. I guess I should just be glad that I actually lose it every year, but I'd rather not gain it to begin with! I still work out regularly, if not harder! All I can think is that it is due to us eating warmer foods during the winter, due to the cold. Things like stew, chili, tacos, etc (even though we make them healthy). Whereas during the summer it's so hot, that we basically eat light things such as salads, sandwiches, grilled chicken and fish, fruits, and fresh veggies from the garden. Oh well, I'm not obsessing over it. I'm just determined to get these pounds off, and get back down to my normal weight of 120-123, or maybe even less. ;-)

I remembered who the other person was that I've been told I looked like. When we were watching Biggest Loser last night, it reminded me! We were watching Biggest Loser with some friends a few months back and they asked me if I remembered when Kim Lyons was on the show. I was like "of course! she is a famous fitness competitor!" They then told me that the first time they ever saw her on the show they both immediately thought of me, and said "you know who she looks like?! Kandy!" I was so totally flattered. There may be a small resemblance, due to the large eyes, and face shape. Whatcha think?

Training...

Still training for the upcoming half-marathon. It is scheduled for Feb 21st!

BTW: everyone on facebook is putting up a celebrity picture of who they are most told that they look like.

Well, I've been told by a waiter that I looked like Cameron Diaz
(Ha! I wish!),

and then by a friend that I look like Kristin Davis
(again, I wish..I think I'm probably closer to looking like this one, if I darkened my hair maybe).

I'm not sure that I really look like anyone famous...hence the reason I haven't posted a celebrity photo. What do ya'll think???? Can you think of anyone? I sure can't...

Friday...

Another boring, lonely Friday night at home, with a sick kid and hubby working. I should really get in there and run. I know it would make me feel better. I just have no umph at the moment...simply down in the dumps I guess. If I ran, I'd have those endorphins flowing, and that would help me feel better....I really should...if I can just talk myself into it.....not like I have anything better to do, already fed the boys dinner and now they are watching a movie. I could do some chores or read (already caught up on work). Blah!

Thursday...

Ran my scheduled 5 miles (got it in early today, compared to yesterday). Feeling much better now.

Picked boys up from school, and Levi said he wasn't feeling good and that his body had been hurting all day. So when we got home, I took his temp. It was 100.0 Poor baby. He's been sick more this year, than ever.

Missing my hubby. Sometimes I hate his work schedule. I mean, I'm thankful that we are so blessed that he has a great job that he loves. It just feels like we live separate lives sometimes. On his days/time off, I'm at work and the boys are at school...then on the days/time he works, we are at home. We miss him so much when he's at work. But at least we are blessed with great jobs..so I'm not complaining...."Thank you Lord for our wonderful jobs, well behaved little boys, and all the many blessings you given us!!!"

Wednesday

Was busy working on reports all day. Didn't get a chance to workout, until after getting the boys in bed. I started my workout at 9:45. Ran 5miles, then finished up with weights, abs, stretching, shower, and jammies. All ready for beddy-by now. I just never can completely calm down and sleep well when my hubby is working. Once he crawls in bed I sleep like a rock.

Biggest Loser Thoughts...

Loved watching this last night, on the DVR, while fast-forwarding through the commercials.
I am sooooo ready for the Green team to go home. Their bad attitudes suck! I can't even stand to look at them. They have a huge chip on their shoulders, and even their body language is horrible(arms crossed, scowl on faces, etc). They don't deserve to be at the Biggest Loser Ranch.
The red team threw the weigh in. Why can't they just own up to it?! You look like a bigger fool for continuing to lie (and cry about it) on TV, rather than just admitting "yes, I'm smart enough to throw in some game play". ARGH!
It's a great season though. Look forward to watching it each week...but will enjoy it more once both of the "green team" members are gone. :)

Running...

Just finished my 8 mile run (was supposed to do Sunday, but didn't have time...then I worked ALL day yesterday and didn't have time...so I made up for it today).

Still training for the half-marathon, plus working full time and taking care of the house and family. It's busy, busy. which is why I haven't had much time for blogging. But my dear sweet hubby did clean the whole house yesterday!!! YEA!!!! and he made dinner!!!! LOVE that Man!!!!!

Today after I finished up some work, we met in town for lunch. He was in uniform and looked sooooo handsome. I am one very lucky lady. :)
Tonight, he took the boys with him to play basketball with some of his buddies from work. So I have had quiet time to catch up on some work and get my run in. He spoils me sometimes, and I enjoy every minute of it.

Later!

Running....

Ran 7.25 miles yesterday (was supposed to have ran this on Sunday, but just didn't feel up to it).
While I ran my hubby and sons napped.
When I had finished, my hubby was cooking dinner! I started some laundry and then had to work on an appraisal report, so he went and bought groceries!!! I LOVE THAT MAN!!!! It is so nice to have him help around the house. Sometimes I just get so sick of grocery shopping, and trying to guess at what he might want to have for his lunches. So that was big help!

Half-Marathon training

I started training for a Half-Marathon this week. I only have 6 weeks to train, but I've been running regularly, so it's doable.
I ran 4 miles Tuesday with a 1 mile walk, 2 Miles Wednesday plus a 1.5 mile walk, then 4 miles yesterday with a 1 mile walk and 30 minutes of weight training.
It feels so good to run. Love it!

New Year, New You!

New Year=New You.
Time to do something you always wanted to do. Try something new. Make THIS be THE year to FINALLY accomplish that goal you've been working toward.
:-)

This year my goals are:
-Do the additional education hours, and pass the test to get officially "licensed" instead of having a "trainee license".
-Run my first Half-Marathon. I'm training for one as we speak!
-Finally reach my goal weight of 115, or a muscular flab free body with ab muscles that show (whichever come first!)...before my 15 year class reunion in July.
